When games are your game

Every month, the DarkMoon Faire comes around on World of Warcraft over and over again like clockwork. With this even comes a lot of opportunities for making gold.

Despite all the changes that Wrath of the Lich King expansion has brought on World of Warcraft, there’s still a huge amount of gold that you can make by camping the vendors in the DarkMoon Faire, buying up their stocks, and just pretty much hanging around at the Faire.

Of all the WoW gold guides that I have encountered, the best DarkMoon Faire strategy comes from Jonathan Kenins in his complete walkthrough of the DarkMoon Faire in the Massive Gold Blueprint. He has a series of step-by-step videos where he talks about how the Wrath of the Lich King economy has changed the DarkMoon Faire gold-making strategy.

The short story is that WotLK has changed the DarkMoon Faire economy a lot, but it is still possible to make huge amounts of gold in the Faire. Not as good but it’s still profitable.

The way to make a good amount of gold by camping, is to hang around Professor Thaddeus and Lhara in a booth at the back of the Faire, for their Exotic goods.

You should keep an eye out for items such as herbs like Frost Lotus, Netherbloom, Black Lotus, Terocone, Ghost Mushroom, Dreamfoil, Goldclover, Adder’s Tongue, Wild Steelbloom, and Deadnettle. Even lower-level herbs like Earthroot, Khadgar’s Whisker and Mageroyal are worth picking up here and re-selling on the acution house.

You can also do well with some of the elementals, like Crystallized Fire, Crystallized Air, Crystallized Earth and Crystallized Life. Even the older (and less desirable) Motes can turn a profit on many servers, especially is you focus on Mote of Fire and Mote of Air.

There are not a lot of gold-making opportunities with leather. Although some leather items are pretty useful when it comes to making you gold, the leather that you might want to try out are Rugged Leather, and Knothide Leather, it depends on server prices. The best gold-making leather at the DarkMoon Faire is the Arctic Fur. This is pretty rare and it doesn’t appear often in Lhara’s booth, but you should definitely buy it whenever you have the chance and sell it in the auction house for 25 gold or more.

There are items to avoid because you might end up losing gold than gaining some. Avoid all of the gems, including Dawnstone, Nightseve, Star of Elune, Talasite, Living Ruby and Noble Topaz. These gems go for 12g each at the Faire, but they won’t sell for anything near that amount of gold in the auction houses. Avoid scrolls at all cost, scrolls are not worth it anymore ever since Inscription came out.

Flik, the little boy who runs around the Faire is also worth catching. You can buy Tree Frogs from him, and limited supply Wood Frogs. It’s advisable to stockpile on these items especially the Wood Frogs, because you can sell it through the month after DarkMoon Faire and make a good amount of gold profit.

Wrath of the Lich King expansion has changed the economy a lot, and with it comes a decrease in gold profit from the DarkMoon Faire, before, a normal turn out from the DarkMoon Faire was around 600g to 1000g, now the best amount of gold that you can hope to earn is around 500g. That’s still a good amount of gold though, so it’s definitely worth it!
